Our Story
Our Story
Beyond Us was never meant to exist, but it does.
We created this as a path back to ourselves following the death of our daughter, Rae, in 2023.
Our journey through grief and trauma since then has exposed parts of us no parent ever wants to face. And yet, here we are — not broken, but broken open.
Beyond Us exists because we have come to see that life is so much more than ourselves. Through the isolation of complex and traumatic grief, we have learned that what we need most as humans is support and community — and that these are needed more in grief than ever.
We also discovered how little exists to truly hold you when life falls away. And how the systems our societies are built upon can, at times, do profound harm to grieving families.
Through our experience of the inquest into Rae’s death, we came to understand just how complex and challenging these processes can be — not only practically, but mentally, emotionally, and physically.
So this is where we find ourselves.
Not healed, but learning to live alongside grief — because our love for Rae is not something we would ever want to leave behind.
Not moving on, but integrating all that we have experienced.
We share this space, and ourselves, in the hope that it offers something to others — whether that is understanding, connection, or simply the feeling of not being alone.
In love and in life, we are guided by Rae.
And we are glad to share both her, and ourselves, with you.
